Kiteboard Tour Asia: riding fast with the monsoons

Pudla Narapichit and Doque Delos Santos have been crowned the Kiteboard Tour Asia 2012/2013 champions.


With 120 riders from 30 countries, the final and decisive Chinese stage once again broke all records, at Pingtan Island, also known as Haitan Island.

The spot is regarded as China's windiest location - regular wind speeds of over 30 knots are recorded over the winter monsoon season and all of the island's old traditional style stone houses need to have rocks placed on top of their tiled roofs to keep them in place when it blows.

The first kitesurfing competition will hit India, between 23rd-25th May, at Mandwa. The Red Bull Quila Surf will showcase 70 Indian kitesurfers in the water.


The costal district of Raigad is ready for action. The Red Bull Quila Surf is the first ever kitesurfing competition in the country and anxiety grows.

Ines Correia, the 2011 Kite Surf Pro (KSP) World Tour champion from Portugal, has been invited to judge the riders based on speed, maneuverability and attitude.

Lake of Two Mountains: never kite alone

A 32-year-old kitesurfer has passed away when he was sailing on the Lake of Two Mountains, in Quebec, Canada.


Julien Blanchard was enjoying a kitesurfing session in the part of the river delta widening of the Ottawa River, in Quebec, when he suffered what is commonly called the "death loop".

The rider was dragged to his death on the lake, after fell and being kept underwater by his kite for about 20 minutes.

Kiteboard Open: getting airborne in the Netherlands

The Kiteboard Open 2013 will run between the 18th-20th May, in Noordwijk, Netherlands.


During three days, the west of the Netherlands is invaded by some of the best regional kitesurfers in a beach lifestyle festival.

Ruben Lenten, Kevin and Jalou Langeree will be showing off in the Kiteboard Open 2013, at the their home spot.

Mini Kiteboard World Cup: tight Slalom disputes

Bryan Lake and Warenka Smunty have sailed faster to steal the Mini Kiteboard World Cup, on the Riviera Nayarit, Mexico.


In the last day of Slalom kiteboarding competition, the thermal wind picked up to about 15 knots and two races were run. The course was set up with long legs and four marks to push the riders to their maximum speed, while rounding the marks at full speed.

With steady 15-knot winds, riders picked their 11 and 13 meter kites. In the first race, all the favorites advanced to the final. Lake seemed to have more speed and won his fifth consecutive race.

KTA China: Pingtan Island is full of kite fans

The Kiteboard Tour Asia (KTA) 2012/2013 season will crown the best kitesurfers in the Pingtan Island, in China.


Last year, more than 10,000 kiteboarding fans packed the sand beach of the Chinese island. Now, the overall Asian kite champions are about to get their hands in the titles.

Pingtan Island offers not only potentially some of the best winds for KTA, but also large wide sand beaches and stunning coastline.

Marseille Kite Race: crowded regatta field

Maxime Nocher has won the Championnat de France de Kite Race, held during five days of competition, in Marseille, France.


Riders had all types of winds, from the warm Southwest to the cold Mistral. Nine races have been launched and up to 50 kiteboarders have sailed for the higher podium places.

There were pretty impressive performances from some athletes. Nicolas Parlier was imperial in the Foil division, throughout the five days of racing.

Vancouver: kiteboarding is not a crime

Canadian kiteboarders have asked permission to launch their kites at the Spanish Banks Beach Park, in Vancouver.


The English Bay, in Vancouver, Canada, is one of the best kiteboarding spots in North American. The favorable wind conditions are, however, the only allies of local riders.

The authorities have forbidden the practice of water sports in the region. "No person shall use, carry or possess a surfboard, windsurfer, canoe or boat in a park or on a beach save in such areas as designated by the General Manager", a park board tells.

Aaron Hadlow: with the PKRA jersey on, again

Aaron Hadlow has returned to the professional kiteboarding competitions, with a podium place in the single elimination of the PKRA Leucate, in France.


After a four-year break from competitions, to push other areas of the sport and find new challenges, Aaron Hadlow is back. The multiple-time world champion has started his new campaign with a bright result, in Leucate.

In the last four years, Hadlow has done everything. Except competing in the mainstream arenas. He wanted to try different things, to experiment new feelings and to develop new projects.

Alex Pastor and Gisela Pulido have conquered the Mondial du Vent 2013, in Leucate, France.


The final heats of the double elimination were performed in perfect conditions, with side-off shore winds, at about 25-30 knots and sunny skies.

The double elimination gives the opportunity to come back and win, for riders that lost in the single elimination. In case you break a line or have a bad heat, you can still come back and finish with a better result.
